  • hi Rita,
I thought you already owned a kitchen aid! You really
should get one, :) It's very common here in America, I
want to get one too! It comes with the part that roll
pasta dough, did you get that as well?

I bet you have heard of "food network", Ina Garten is
one of my favorite chefs, and I like her Pavlova!
Here's her recipe:
Meringue is yummy~~ :)
  • Ka Ki, long time no see! Well, the meringue of Pavlova is too sweet! I don't want it to be so sweet! Most of the recipes found call for 50g of sugar FOR EACH EGG WHITE! Totally there will be 200g, at least! Very sweet... I'm planning to make a light one, see whether the volume can be maintained if less sugar is used!

I did not have a KitchenAid! In the past, I used the handy electric mixer... I believe in my skills, but when it comes to the bread dough, a KitchenAid is a must...

And Ka Ki, you know, it's much cheaper to buy it in USA! My bf bought it in Portland for me. You know, Sur La Table. Is it near your home? I also want to visit the shop that Nigella Lawson goes to usually. Is it called Broadway xxx yyy ...

I don't know Ina Garten, but I know other chefs appeared on Asian Food Channel, Discovery Travel & Living, BBC LifeStyle... Of course, I know them only, they don't know me. :P

Take care! Enjoy your life being a mother and a wife! ^_^

  • hi Rita,
If you live in USA you would LOVE watching Food
Network! That's what I watch everyday while I am
breastfeeding Isabelle, :) Ina Garten's recipes are
good, you should browse www.foodnetwork.com There you
can also find Nigella's recipes.
Have you tried using some cream of tartar for meringue
with less suger content? I don't know if it will work.
Yes, I agree, making bread you really need a Kitchen
Aid. I just cannot knead the dough long enough to make
the "membrane"...
Your boyfriend went to Portland, Oregon or Portland,
Maine? I live in Oregon and I went to Sur La Table,
it's VERY NICE!!! Everything is expensive but I bet
they are even more expensive in HK. There are some
Asian cooking utensils which you wouldn't buy from them
because of the outragious price!
Keep in touch, check the websites of "Sur La
Table", "Kitchen Kaboodle" I can help you get
something and bring them to HK next time I come back. :)
  • I had used Cream of Tartar. The outcome is ok, but I still think that it's too sweet for me. I have used Ina Garten's recipe last night. But recently the weather is so humid, the meringue has a bit wet on the surface in the next morning. You know, I kept the meringue in the oven to cool down overnight.

My bf went to Portland, Oregon, and visited the Sur La Table there.

How I envy you! You now have so peacful life. We live in HK, still need to fight fight fight each day.

Anyway, I make Pavlova for fun, it is not my cup of tea. Let's see whether it will be better if served with fresh cream and fruits.

I used 4 large egg whites + 200g sugar + 2 tsp corn starch + 2 tsp cream of tartar + 1.5 tsp vanilla essence. I will try reducing the sugar content, but it is really important as it helps to maintain the volume.

And thank you for giving me such a good offer! ^_^ When will you be back? Your family (mom & dad) must miss you very much.

    Take care.
